पंजाब राज्य में पंचायतों का कार्यकाल समाप्त होने से पहले की सभी ग्राम पचायतों को भंग करने का आदेश जारी कर दिया था. जो पंजाब पंचायती राज एक्ट 1994 की धरा 29-ए के अनुसार राज्यपाल की अनुमति से लिया था. पंजाब राज्य में कुल 13,628 पंचायतें हैं और राज्य में 2019 में पंचायत कु चुनाव हुए थे लेकिन कार्यकाल समाप्त होने के बाद भी अभी तक चुनाव आयोजित नही हुए हैं. अगर ख़बरों की माने तो पंजाब राज्य में जल्द ही पंचायत चुनाव आयोजित किये जायेंगे. लेकिन अभी तक चुनाव को लेकर ढील बरती जा रही है. हाईकोर्ट की फटकार के बाद चुनाव आयोग ने प्रक्रिया को तेज किया है.
